Baseball Wildcard Format

There is a misconception that the wildcard team is an inferior team.

They are usually the second best team in the League.

It is working out right this year, but not for the right reasons.

The seeding for the National League should be:

  1. St. Louis  (best team in the National League)
  2. Atlanta  (second best team in the National League)
  3. Houston  (Houston shouldn't be penalized because they are in a division with a runaway winner)
  4. San Diego  (by far the worst of the four teams) Will probably win it all.  ;-)

The seeding for the American League should be:

  1. Chicago White Sox  (division winner with the best record)
  2. Los Angeles Angels  (division winner with the second best record by tie-breaker over the Yankees)
  3. New York Yankees  (division winner by tie-breaker over Boston)
  4. Boston Red Sox  (wildcard)
