The Fallacy of Fuels from Grain

20 Feb 2006

Do we really think that taking energy from the ground by growing plants is a harmless idea?

What is taken from the ground has to be replaced in order to grow more corn, etc.

What percentage of a crop actually comes from the ground, the air, water, the sun, and other sources as yet to be discovered?

What fertilizers and chemicals do we have to add to the ground in order to replenish it?

I have seen no studies to indicate any significant thought on the issue.

What we've all seen is a bunch of kids on TV telling us what a great idea it is to magically get free energy from the ground.

The nearest we can come to "free energy" is from sources that come from other than our own planet.  At our present level of scientific development, the sun is our only choice.

Even wind power and tidal power cause problems that we are just now beginning to understand.

Don't rule out fusion.  After all, it's what powers the universe. As long as we can make it "Homer Proof" and child-proof . . .
